This listing is for a vintage silk kimono made for a very young girl. Note that it has been "hemmed" with an 10" tuck at the waist which can be removed if more length is needed for a better fit.
Bright orange - an auspicious color in Japan - is the background to a very fancy and formal design that features pine boughs and plum blossoms created with couched embroidery scattered about the kimono. Each element is framed in a hexagon - also an auspicious element as it refers to the longevity of the 1000-year old tortoise.
The background silk features a shippo motif - another traditional motif associated with good fortune. There is a single family crest - paulownia - in orange at the neck. There is also a small blemish at the right shoulder - see last photo.
Vintage Japanese children's kimono make eye-catching displays in spaces too small to accomodate a full sized kimono or haori. We do offer display rods (see tab below) if you're intending to hang this. If it's to be worn, check out our or, for a more casual look, add one of our simple cotton sashes (see Optional Add-on above).
